Olympic Trends in Sports Betting

If you intend to wager on the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, you may find it reassuring to know that approximately 20 million Americans have similar intentions.

After a final, for some, heart-stopping delay caused by the ongoing crisis surrounding the novel coronavirus COVID-19, the Games have finally been approved. And online sportsbooks have begun to offer odds on some of the most popular events in the American market.

An 8% Rise in Bettors

After last year’s bitter disappointment for fans of the Games, the Summer Olympics will finally begin in the Land of the Rising Sun, where the finest athletes in the world will compete for the Gold. In 2021, there will be more action as a result of sports betting, due to the United States of America.

20 million adults, or 8% of the population, are interested in wagering on their favorite sports, according to a survey by the American Gaming Association. This is partially due to the country’s recent legalization of gambling.

The findings of the AGA Survey

54% of those surveyed were interested in the Summer Games as a whole, and 25% of those said they intended to wager at least once during the two-week competition. Morning Consult conducted the poll on behalf of the AGA between July 9 and 12, 2021, and 2,200 adult Americans participated.

However, not everyone will utilize online sports betting platforms. The study found that 43% of those interested in wagering would do so, while 47% preferred a casual wager with acquaintances and 16% intended to visit a brick-and-mortar bookmaker.

The Two Leading U.S. Markets

Basketball attracted the majority of sports wagering interest in a relatively predictable manner. As the NBA season recently concluded with the Milwaukee Bucks’ victory over the Phoenix Suns, it is evident that Americans are eager to witness another game so soon.

Gymnastics is not typically associated with sports wagering, but this event is one of the most popular at the Olympic Games. Simone Biles’s 2016 performance, which resulted in a gold medal, is without a doubt the reason why she is participating again this year. She is favored by online sportsbooks to win both the All-Around and Artist Team events for the United States.
